2008 was the year of long whistlers and pure tone whistlers: On my lucky day, Aug. 24th, at CEST 17:23 I recorded this:

Two minutes later, another pure tone whistler came. This one started at 5 kHz, became weaker betwen 2.5 and 1 kHz, and finished with a nice low frequency tail:

The strongest whistler came at CEST 17:42. It also was loud between 5 and 2.5 kHz, and had a rather long tail. As it took about 2.5 sec to fall from 5 to 2 kHz, it was a two hop whistler. The spheric marked by an arrow must have been the source: a lightning in Europe, which is not surprising in summer.

Some days later (Sept. 9th) this nice long whistler was recorded: It consists of several pure tone whistlers. Again, it is of the two hop variety, and the source spheric is indicated by the arrow.
