ESA-Haystack Radiotelescope: the Hardware
Joachim Köppen Strasbourg 2010
Our telescope is the Small Radio Telescope (SRT) from the
CASSI Inc., donated to us by the generosity of ESA.
The system consists of
- 2.3 m diameter parabolic dish reflector
- CASSI digital receiver, tunable in the range 1370 ... 1800 MHz, providing a FFT spectrum
output
- band-pass filter ahead of low-noise preamplifier, at 1420 MHz centre frequency, to reject
interference signals from nearby GSM tower
- CASSI AzEl mount, remotely controlled
- System temperature: about 1000 K (apr.2010) ... 200-300 K (after june 2011)
- 120 m long coaxial and control cables
- to compensate D.C. resistance in the long coaxial cable, a 5 VDC source is connected in series
with the computer interface
- CASSI computer interface controller for rotator and receiver control
- JKSRT3 Java Graphical User Interface program, extensively modified from the version
available at CASSI
